In today’s fast paced life it has become an
essential to become all the more health conscious. In fact,
right-eating habits reduces every kind of health risk.
People are getting burnt out at the desk, and otherwise
because in the mad rush of day to day existence they place
health on the lower end of the scale. It does not matter if they
have skipped meals, but their deadlines have to be met. |
Well, meeting deadlines is no doubt of prime
importance. For, as they say time is money and money comes to those who
value time. But all the same, at what cost? In fact, according to the
health experts, people are so busy chasing their goals of success and
money that when they finally earn it all they need to spend it on
recuperating in some health care institute. So, why not slow down a bit
and listen to what the body needs.
The more important thing is to befriend the body. Listen to it speak to
you. Listen to the body when it demands food, liquids and sleep. Listen
to it when it says it needs exercises. These are all the sources of
energy for the body and without them the body is bound to reach a stage
of dis-ease… It just becomes diseased.
Most people feel that they need to postpone beginning a healthy living
regime. They always believe that taking care of eating habits is
something that can be procrastinated. The result, people in their early
twenties are rushed to the intensive care unit because of a stroke or
heart attack. And when they are wheeled out of the hospital they vow to
eat right.
But, why wait for such a point when all one needs to do is bring in
right eating habits. After all how much of an effort does it require to
eat low calorie vegetarian food? There are so many quick to prepare
recipes. And the easiest amongst them are salads and sandwiches. Even
independent bachelors can spend ten minutes in the morning to prepare a
wholesome meal for lunch.
Even food that needs heating does not take time to prepare. There are
simple and quick recipes and most companies have a microwave in the
pantry, in which the lunch can be quick-heated. Though researchers
discourage the use of the microwave, yet using it for 30-45 seconds a
day does no harm.
The basic idea is to eat home made food, rather than the fast food and
other restaurant menu. They are tasty, but yet where nutrient value is
concerned they definitely score less on the scale. So, why not commit to
the self and prepare a good meal.
Here are a few low calorie and vegetarian recipes:
Vegetable Stew recipe:
· 2 Diced carrots
· One boiled and chopped potato
· One chopped tomato
· Half cabbage - medium sized pieces
· Broccoli
· Mushrooms
For the gravy base:
· Grounded ginger and garlic paste
· Two sliced green chilies
· Cardamom
· Cinnamon
· Corn flour
· Vinegar
· Sugar (less than a teaspoon)
· Salt to taste
· Black pepper powder
· Soya Sauce
First heat 1 tablespoon of low-fat oil and add to it the ginger-garlic
paste and the green chilies, stir for a few minutes then add the
cardamom, cinnamon, vinegar, sugar and salt. Add the onions and let it
cook for a few minutes then stir in the vegetables. When the vegetables
have completely blended into the spices then add 2 to 3 cups of water.
Add the corn flour depending on how thick you want the gravy. Add Soya
Sauce. Stir the mixture and leave it boil for about half an hour,
covering the cooker. If a slow cooker is used then cooking time can go
to up to three hours. Before serving add some black pepper powder.
The stew can be served with some bread.
Other easy low calorie and vegetarian recipes option is the use of
various herbs and sauces to spice up steamed vegetables of your choice;
or then toss in some pasta or spaghetti.
