Most nutritional experts recommend that one should eat five portions of fruit and vegetables a day, use organic and free-range produce whenever possible, decrease intake of junk and processed foods, consume fresh foods and whole grains every day, limit intake of tea, caffeine and alcohol, drink plenty of good quality water, limit intake of saturated fats but ensure sufficient intake of essential fatty acids, limit salt intake and use herbal or low-sodium salts and avoid preservatives and flavorings whenever possible.

A right diet and nutrition not only play an integral part in ensuring physical health and fitness but in maintaining strong teeth and healthy gums as well. Nutrition and dental health is very essential and cannot be ignored. Sugar is teeth's deadliest enemy and is the prime cause of tooth decay. Hence intake of sugar should be minimized as much as possible. Sticky foods such as raisins, caramels, toffees, etc that is not quickly diluted by saliva also set a major risk of dental cavities. Also, insufficient consumption of Vitamin C may lead to oral health problems like swollen and bleeding gums and loss of teeth can result.

All nutritional treatments focus on obtaining a balance of protein, carbohydrate, fruit, vegetables and fibre, plus a balanced intake of vitamins and minerals.
