caterers

A caterer is a person who works directly with clients to cook, decorate and serve menus for events, including wedding dinners, corporate meetings, festive brunches, office ceremonies and parties, and any other occasion where people come together and consume food. A caterer needs to understand the importance of an event or an occasion that he is handling and what kind of food will go with it.

He should have strong interpersonal and communication skills. He should be someone who has great leadership qualities and organizational skills and is able to take responsibilities on his shoulder. He should have the ability to manage a cooking and serving staff. Most of the catering services in India are run by their owners; hence a caterer must have all the required business insights. It is very important that the caterer himself love food and is interested in different styles of cuisines, only then he will be able to prepare elegant meals for his clients. There is a lot of struggle in the initial years of a caterer even if one has immense talents. One needs to prove oneself with every project that one gets! Caterers spend considerable time developing creative menus, a unique style, and wedding plans.

A caterer has to oversee and manage everything that is the reason people say catering services never get too large. Some of the catering services employ many full- and part-time staff however the majority have fewer than six full-time employees, and hire temporary staff for the rest. Wedding caterers in India are driven by season especially during the month of December and January.  The caterer provides sample menus and the clients choose their favorite dishes and work with the caterer to assemble a proper meal where each dish compliments the other. Smart caterers are able to lead clients to decisions that will benefit them in organizing the event in a better way.

Airline catering is also another option that one can take up as a career. It includes providing food for airline passengers. An airline caterer caters for airlines companies, charters and private jets. Some of them also manage the restaurants and cafes on the airports.

Over 50 per cent of the expenses are taken up by food and beverages at the wedding reception in India. Hence allowing a reception caterer to be flexible with the menu can save money. Caterer should also keep in mind to inform the client that if he wants to save on the money they can do so if they avoid expensive out-of-season items on the menu. Now-a-days most of the affluent weddings in India have almost all types of cuisines available at the reception. This not only leads to wastage but also is a big expense to be borne. It is always advisable that a caterer suggests one type of cuisine that people can relish at a wedding reception.

Business catering is also another area which involves providing food and beverages on a large scale to corporate bodies and institutions at corporate meetings and parties, in corporate cafeterias, guesthouses, and other specialized locations. Whether it is a simple sandwich at an office or an exquisite themed lunch party, corporate caterers must be able to deliver their best!
